An Assortment of Cooking Metaphors
Jul 27th/09
The new redesign is starting to take shape, be sure to check out the Store. More will be happening over the next week or so, such as a new product/purchase/contact system. For BFP Team members, be sure to log in to the website to see the new Team section for top secret project discussions. Good things are cooking, and we've recently taken some big initiatives off the back burner, and things will soon be coming to a rolling boil.
For everyone else, bait your breath. You're just going to have to wait.
Bingo Hotline
Jul 21st/09
I was researching bingo nights on the Club Regent Casino website (because Kale and I think that going to play bingo at the casino would be a fantastic thing to do to celebrate her birthday--and you should all come!), and I made a discovery...Here's an excerpt from the MSN conversation:
Brian says:
apparently there's supposed to be bingo every night 7pm + 10pm plus midnight on friday+saturday
Brian says:
and there's a Bingo Hotline we could call!
kale says:
lololololol
Brian says:
"hello, bingo hotline! what is the nature of your bingo-related inquiry?"
Brian says:
"it's a bingo emergency!"
Brian says:
i'd like to call it and just yell "BINGO!!"
kale says:
you just love the idea of a bingo hotline
Brian says:
i really do
I get excited about odd things sometimes.
For anyone with any unsettled bingo-related questions, the Bingo Hotline is 957-2710. Use it wisely.

Redesign Afoot
Jul 19th/09
Hey folks, I'm working on redesigning some things around bigflamingpile.com and the BFP Store. Changes should be taking shape over the next several days. Let me know what you think, or if you have any suggestions. The main focus of the much-overdue redesign is to make the site and store friendlier and more welcoming to first-time visitors. Later on I'll be working more on the store to add a better interface for viewing and ordering products online.
Cheers,
Brian
Do You Make Filums?
May 15th/09
I'm at home, trying to write film scripts. Or coming up ideas for film scripts. I've actually had a couple I'm excited about. Why am I writing film scripts? I'm taking two film courses this Spring. Then I'll be done my degree (which is not in Film). Kale is off in Red Deer for the long weekend, visiting an old friend. I've also been trying to teach Wim (my bird) to speak. He's on my shoulder, not saying much. I'll keep you updated.May 6
May 06th/09
I'm excited. Yesterday I started spring classes. I needed just 9 credit hours to finish off my degree, and didn't see anything interesting in my major subject so I chose two film courses. In less than two months I'll be done school, and in the mean time I get to take some fun classes. I have to write a short script for Monday!Another exciting thing is that it's finally spring and I can ride my bike to school and to work. It only takes 5 minutes to get to school and 10-15 to get to work. Pretty cool.
Progress on the Shirts front
Apr 27th/09
It's good to see BFP Shirts finally taking off. We've been working on a few large custom t-shirt orders, and have really improved our printing methods in the process. Last week we ordered a large stockpile of blank shirts from our distributor, using $200 of profits from previous custom orders, which will allow us to start ramping up promotion of our homebrew BFP Shirts designs. We'll be cooking up some fresh designs soon, so stay tuned to the BFP Store! My 3 Youtube Picks (updated)
Mar 27th/09
In reply to Chelle's "LOLZ" post, here are 3 youtube picks:1. "Bad Time To Fart"
2. "Ricky Gervais Meets Elmo"

To celebrate the ridiculous spirit of Youtube.com video blogs where anyone can ramble on and on about nothing in particular, I decided to create one of my own yesterday:Enjoy.

Wim
Feb 06th/09

This is Wim. Some of you have already met him. He's a Dutch Blue Lovebird. We got him from The Bird Shop on Main Street several weeks ago, and ever since he's been perching and pooping all over the apartment.
He doesn't speak yet, but he headbangs to music and sticks out his tounge.
Turtle
Nov 29th/08
I just bought my turtle a dozen minnows to get friendly with, and/or snack on at his convenience. So far they're getting on swimmingly. I'll keep you all updated. Maybe this requires the return of BFP's infamous TurtleCam webcam...A Very Beastie Weekend (Video)
Nov 27th/08
On November 1st, Alex, Hary, Kale + I ventured south of the border to check out the Beastie Boys in St. Paul, Minnesota. They were putting on a pre-election get-out-and-vote extravaganza.Last night Kale put together an amazing retrospective video of the experience...
My only regret is that we didn't go back to Fergus Falls, Mn to buy some t-shirts at the the local Kum & Go. Oh, if you're ever at the Burger Time in Fergus Falls... try the water.
Orchestras and Acrobats
Sep 17th/08
Good evening, folks. I'm on my last coffee break of the evening at work, sitting with my laptop at a cafe table in the main atrium of Union station, as reverberations of orchestral music (it sounds like the score from Star Wars, actually) played over the train station sound system bounce of the walls and domed ceiling of Winnipeg's finest echochamber.I hope everyone digs the new Photo-a-Day blog. So far all of the photos have been taken by me and my cameraphone on coffee breaks not unlike this one, but I hope that the other BFP teamsters will soon lend their images to the blog. I'm going to show Derek the ropes of how to upload new pics, so in the future you can send your images to either of us if you want them to grace the website.
Crazy circus music playing now. No acrobats in sight, but there'd be plenty of room for a high-wire act, and the music leads one to summon a wild imaginary acrobatic act far above the marble floors. The only entertainment here right now is a group of four elderly folks playing a game of dice at a nearby table.
But this is no time for fun and games. Back to work, Brian.
Stranded in a Paris Airport
Aug 09th/08
Hey everyone. Miss you guys. Stranded in a Paris Airport for the last 24 hours or so, and no end in sight. Our flight was cancelled. After waiting all night they took us to a hotel for 3 hours of sleep before promptly waking us at 4am, taking us back to the airport and then telling us the new flight is delayed, and it only takes us to London; not Toronto as the flight originally was, and no word of where or when they will get the 230 of us back to Canada.otherwise the trip has been great, hope to be home soon!

Greetings from abroad. Havent had much access to internet on my trip, but to make up for it here is a picture. This is what the urinals look like on the Eiffel Tower.

In exactly 2 weeks I'll be Zooming off to London with Kale and my mom. Yup, I invited my mom to come along - she's staying for a week in London. After London, Kale and I will be flying to Dusseldorf to meet her long-lost cousin from the Netherlands, where we'll be staying for four or five days before returning to downtown Dusseldorf for two nights, and then riding Eurorail to Paris for the remainder of our 3 weeks in Europe. Then we'll fly Paris to Toronto, where we'll spend a night downtown near Yonge street before flying back to Winnipeg on August 10th. This is the plan, anyway. We just booked our last hotel/hostel the other night.
My parents are moving to the city. My dad got a job in Winnipeg and moved into an apartment in March. The job is going well, so they bought a house here in June. They get possession mid next week.
Expect some low resolution cameraphone crappiness and perhaps some digital photos from the trip.
Moon Boots
Jun 03rd/08
Check out my new moon boots. They have sound effects.
BFP Day #12 on Saturday!
Down and Out in Paris and London?
Mar 12th/08
Well, the weather is starting to turn. Walked home from school today for the first time in several months. During that walk I decided that hey, it might almost be due time for a long overdue blog/LJ update.First important matter of business, related to the second, is that I've purchased a mobile cellular telephone. Anyone who knows me knows this is entirely unheard of. Perhaps beyond belief. "Brian has a cell phone? Pull the other one."
Anyway, the justifying purpose of the cell phone is, as I said, tied to my second matter of business, which is that I plan to, in the summer, take a bit of a trip, for a couple or few weeks. It is to this end that I secured a phone with global roaming capabilities. It's also a pretty sweet mp3 player.
But, back to the important stuff. A bit of a trip, you say? Yes. Plan is to travel via intercontinental airways to Old Blighty, and spend a week or so in London (that jewel in the crown of the British Isles). In preparation, I'm going to have to do a lot of research, finish watching Derek's Flying Circus box set, and start practicing my silly walk. On the top of my list of things-to-do-in-London is to try the food at the infamous BBC Cafeteria.
After a week of stumbling aimlessly but artfully through the streets of London, it's reckoned that I'll meet up with Kale who, by some happy coincidence or stroke of premeditated genius, will have just finished spending some time in Scotland and/or Southampton. Together we'll float across the English Channel, and spend a week or two in France and perhaps Germany.
Incidently, the French call the English Channel La Manche, or "the sleeve".
More on this as the story develops.
Zoom.
Per Annum Update.
Feb 06th/08
Almost a year since my last update! Yikes! Hope everyone digs the changes in progress around the website. The things going on behind the scenes here at BFP are even more exciting. To show of some new image-handling features, here are some recent photos of my room:

Thanks for the bag of mini donuts, Derek and Crystal! A nice surprise when I got home from work.Speaking of work, I'm going to be working fulltimeish again for the next month, so between work and school you may not be seeing much of me around the H.Q.
Terrible, I know. We'll get through this.
I'll put up my schedule somewhere, so we can coordinate our attacks. I don't work Saturday!
An experiment in random (#2).
Feb 02nd/07
You know what's strange? Listening to surf music 45's at 33-and-a-third.I made delicious samosas yesterday for a potluck/IDS class. I'm a king in the kitchen. Derek says I'm "very domestic".
My mom bought me a book, "The Joke's Over" by artist Ralph Steadman. It came in the mail yesterday. It's a memoir of his 30-year friendship with the late Hunter Thompson, an unlikely collaboration that sparked the birth of gonzo journalism. Forward by the not-yet-late (but getting there) Kurt Vonnegut, another brilliant madman wordsmith, also a kindred spirit and friend of HST. Very excited to read that.
"Don't write, Ralph. You'll bring shame to your family." - Hunter S. Thompson.
Kate is going to make me a t-shirt with a Ralph print on it. I don't know what it'll be, yet. Very excited for that package from Peterborough.
A few weeks ago I saw a dude in the Woodbine who was a deadringer for Thompson. He just sat by a wall, wearing dark aviator glasses and a world-weary look on his face, singing along to Hank Williams on the jukebox.
Lazy day coffee and buttermilk toaster-perfect Eggo-Brand waffles. Just sayin'.
P.S. All is for the best in this, the best of all possible worlds.
Yeah, right. This wasn't quite random, was it?
Byeo.
