Times they are a changing, but fucked if I'm going to.

So, lots of big changes in the life of Derek as of late. I am living alone for the first time in... ever. I am single for the first time in almost 5 years. Though this is less recent, its worth mentioning I am all done school and am now Journeyman Derek. Lots of changes in a short period of time. I'm was pretty fucked for a bit there, but I'm getting better, realizing that there is a lot out there for me to experience, and I am very lucky to have the means to experience all that i want too. Lots of things for me to do for me, no one else. Fun shall be had, hell fun IS being had. There are still some things I need to get right before i am "Me" again, but i see those things coming back, and I like it. These last few adversities in my life have really opened my eyes. I'm seeing a lot of things about myself that i had chosen to suppress for whatever reason, and now that i see them again I'm feeling a lot better about my life as a whole. I know what I want out of life, I know what I need to accomplish to get those things out of life, and above all else I know I can count on me to follow through. After all I am the most reliable person I know.

the life and times

Aug 15th/07

*cracks knuckles*

its been a while so here i go.

Well life is pretty much as it was to be expected i am working my normal weeks and spending my spare time doing the things i normally spare time with. i have been playing some guitar and have a few new songs coming together each decidedly more controversial than the last. I have been taking some pictures... substantially less than my normal amount due to my lack of a fully functional digital photocamera. I have been taking some video, nothing special and with no real projects in mind, just casually working on my cinamatographic skills. making some contraptions, most notably of which, my new jacobs ladder. Have made a couple trips to the lake this summer, good times were had. Crystal and i went on a Camping trip to Nutimik Lake last weekend, aside from some minor setbacks on the get-go (manly a shitpile of rain upon out arrival) a good time was had by all. Other than that stuff i have just been sitting on my ass whenever possible.

Other fun facts. On September 4th i will return to RRCC for my 3rd level of school concluding early in November. and after said schooling is completed i will have only one more level to attend *WOOO* good times should be had at school, mainly i look forward to the artery narrowing food that the cafeteria specializes in. mmmmm goood

Good times should also be had this weekend at BFP day #11 also known as our charity kegger event. many a fine folk should be showing up for that one, what with a keg of free beer. I am looking forward to that one. 3 sleeps until the kegger...

so... i guess thats a post.. have a pleasant remainder to your summer all and see you at the kegger!

Its Time!

May 07th/07

The clock on the wall indicates that it is time for me to bitch about something...

Okay so what is the deal with fat people getting to park with the dissabled people. You've seen it, a moderately obese person parking in stall A-1 due to the fact they have a little white wheelechair hanging from there rear-view mirror. Now i think that these "wheelchair" parking stalls should be reserved for the wheelchair ridden, not the extremely lazy.

Isn't there some sort of obesity problem in north america. Something like 1 in 5 americans are overweight. Well, I have come up with a sollution! Instead of letting the overweight people park in the wheelchair spot and setting ever lower world records for distance walked from car to door of store. lets have these "obese" persons park in the FAR corner of the parking lot. For it would seem that they could make use of the excercise.

Oh, c'mon thats ? "weightist" ? Yeah, maybe it is but these people are a Huge drain on our healthcare system... and it seems to me that they don't care to do anything about it themselves. In fact it seems to me that a rather large number of them are doing to opposite and applying for the special parking permits to allow them to take a shortcut across the lot in there car and in the process burning 50 less callories over the day.

So i say take away there little wheelchair air fresheners that let them park right by the door. Let them fight for a decent spot with the rest of us.

Jan 10th/07

mid-terms are over and i have gotten the remainder of my exam marks back. they are as follows:

AC theory 1 -- 104%
AC theory 2 -- 99%
Code -- 96%
Motor Controls -- 96%
AC Machines -- 98%
Solid State -- 92%

i was quite satisfied with all my marks except for my solid state. After taking 4 years of electronics in high-school i expected solid state to be one of my best classes, alas I dropped the ball on that one. I blame the exam though, what i'm aloud to blame something other than myself. This particular exam was entirely multiple choice. That may make it seem easy but Multiple choice questions and i don't get along. i tend to second guess myself and overthing the problem leading to errors. A sad excuse i know. But hell i still got a 92 i don't need that good of an excuse.
so officially to date my average is 97.5% and that my friends that aint half bad.

Dec 07th/06

woo, okay so i am still schooling. and its really not become as hard as i expected from what everyone said about the apprenticeship program... the work i do get i don't have much trouble finishing in class and as such i havn't had that much homework. Exams started and i wrote my first exam in AC theory. i managed to get the best mark in the class with 104% ... i'm not even kidding. I havn't had a test with bonus questions on it since grade 2. Admittedly this is probably my strongest subject haven taken this stuff in highschool for 4 years plus a year of college. but anyway that exam was good and it has me ready to write the rest of them. unfortunately all the rest of them are next week. so i will be busy studying next week for the rest.

Tuesday -> code
Thursday -> motor controls
Friday -> AC machines
-> Solid State

code will be my most difficult because we have covered the most in the shortest period of time. but i don't forsee any difficulty doing quite well in all the rest of my exams.

Tomorrow is half way through the course i am already sick of sitting there. since day 2 i have been thinking perhaps i should have just challenged level 2 but i think that would have screwed me over for level 3. Meh, best not to think about these things. School is fun though, i have been working on my pool and foozeball games at lunch in the lounge (not that my fooze game needs any work) I also went to the student associations "Bah Humbug" kegger. I hadn't been to a kegger in a couple years so i made the best of it and stayed right until the end. good times were had by all.

lots of good guys in my class. i will be interested to see if they all make it through school though. one guy in particular has already missed the "maximum" of 3 days and apparently the apprenticeship branch is craching down on this having booted 4 guys in the last session of attendance. If you get booted they make you pay the full tuition amount. I of course have not missed so much as a minute of school. Baring a sudden decapitation i think it will remain that way.

once again i have become addicted to various forms of RRCC food. its the fat man in me that really loves the greasiest of the greasy food that they have. the kind of food that makes healthy eating people puke just a little in the back of there mouth. MMMMM good.

i have used my spare time in the past few weeks to do some productive things around the house. mainly just fixing some shitty walls in crystals room and re-painting them with her help of course.

there was other excitement in my life but i have written enough for now so i will leave it at that.

incase i don't post again before the holidays. i wish everyone the bestest and safest of times this holiday season.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Update!

Nov 09th/06

So this week i started my level 2 school. So far so good, nothing challenging my superior intellect as of yet. Then again today is only my 4th day. None the less i shall continue to think that the easyness will continue well into the schooling becuase that is just a more relaxing thought.

A few of my acquaintances from pre employement are also in school, but once we were split into 3 classes of 16 there was only one left in my class, but luckily it was a guy who i had been project partners with in class and i work well with.

all my courses are just fine and all my instructors so far are good. Tomorrow i have one more class to start and thus one more instructor to meet. This instructor will be the problem. Luckily i will only have to tollerate him for 2 hours a week. Although i never had him as a teacher before my pre-employment class did have a bit of interaction with him, we unaffectionately refer to him as "shit flows" or "dick". or any other moderately derogative name we could come up with for him.

SO far i have not had to do a terrible amount of homework but again i expect this to change in the coming weeks.

In short, school is good, for now.

Oh, and one last thing, i have to give a "shout-out" to all my "peeps" over at Static. Especially Leah and Shelly, who may actually read this. Hope you're all enjoying your first Derek-less week.

B-day

Aug 30th/06

Today is my 23rd birthday. I went to work, came home, opened some b-day cards, ate supper, watched tv and now i am laying in bed waiting for another day to end. Nothing terribly exciting has happend as of late, we had a very successful BFP day, rather 2 or them that we will count as one making them seem even more successful. i went to kenosee for august long, much drunken fun was had. Delivered Rick his new "super mini dirt bike" in oak lake last weekend. fun was had. (i even flew one of his RC planes into a tree...) hehe fun fun. been working a bit of overtime with this night job we got going on.

lately i have noticed i have a desire to buy more expensive objects of entertainment. it is easy to resist this urge because i lack the money to pay for such objects, oh well... better luck next time. on a similar note i have also been giving some thought to selling some of my old, less expensive objects of entertainment mostly because i am less entained by them as of late. nothing will come of these thoughts of course because i am too lazy to take any action.

hrmmmm...crystal is in bed with me now, she is very hot and i love her very much.

ahh fuck thats a big enough post for now.

peace out bitches and bitchettes

Entryness!

May 13th/06

Uhem, so i guess i will make an entry, so much has happened since my last entry there is no real way i could post about everything, so instead i will post about recent goings on. I played some guitar today, and re-strang my stratocaster, it sounds much better now making me happy. Last night i drank beer and watched "Jarhead" which i enjoyed. on thursday and friday at work i worked ontop of a very tall building and took some pictures, i wired up a 600 volt air conditioner up there. That was fun. Here are some pictures.

winter??

Nov 24th/05

EhEh
in preparation for winter i spent a couple hours a couple weeks ago prepairing my awesome snowblower for the season (winter fools!) i cleaned her all out and got her running great. and as we all know shortly there after we got DUMPED on and i celebrated. i got out there and blew the snow! i was giv'n er for about 15 minutes when the right wheel fell off. No problem... i fixed it all up and got back out there snpow blowed both neighbours, the sidewalk down to st matthews, and even half of our back yard. it was STEEK. Point is my 25+ year old snow blower kicks your snowblowers ASS!

I also got to give the truck a real test in 4x4ageness when the storm hit, i was the 2nd dude to make it to work that day everyone else got stuck on the way. and that was still with my bald ass tires on it (i need to buy some winter tires, the ones on it are very un-grippy)

So winter is here and between my snowblower, and my big 4x4 truck, i am S-E-T. To the extreme.

Gaaaa

Stay tunned to your local BFP station, big BIG things are about to happen!

Nov 12th/05

much has happened in the passing... months...

My car got dead, or i killed it, or it blew up, whichever is your preference. it no longer runs, so i bought a new truck. its pretty, white, big and powerful. ots a 2000 chevy silverado extended cab 4x4 v8. fun to drive and it makes me feel like a big man. Work is going good, i have been working at the same place pretty much solid for about 3 months now. (CAA on empress) we are doing a full renovation. the good part about this is parking is free (unlike when i work downtown) and the drive is about 2 minutes from home (also unlike downtown)

Halloween was neat we all carved our pumpkins, even max. had about 60 kids on the night off. lost much candy, but still had enough left for us to enjoy some as well. I was some sort of mad scientist thing (trying to be young frankenstein)

This weekend i prepped the old snow blower for the long winter ahead, i missed her last winter shoveling all by myself. especially with so much snow last year, the snow blower was stuck in some ice back at rick and nancy's for the winter. like i said i missed her and the year off took its tole on her. i had to clean the carb, the gastank and fix a couple small things. but she's ready to go.

Speaking of Rick and nancy, this week they were/are in vancouver leaving us here at BFP headquarters with there small beasts TAC and Kiwi bringing the sum population of bfp headquarters to 8 for the week, a buisy place i tells ya.

the batteries of my digital camera started to suck ass about a month ago (not charging for any period of time) it sucked so i was using regular bataries for a while a set of ne sony batteries cost upwards of 50 bucks... so... i go to XS cargo as i usually do and i see they have a big box of NiCH recargeable batteries for 1.50 each... the exact same make up as my sony ones, but no name. so i bought a couple threw em in my sony charger and they worked fine. 47$ savings. WOOO anyone who needs new Digital camera batteries must check these out.. SOOOO cheap.

I bought some Jazz sticks from Mothers Music for the old drum set. brian and i were sort of working on a jazzy tune for the SPECIAL EDITION BFP MOVIES DVD that we were also working on. whether or not these things actually come to pass and into production remains to be seen.

I as usuall have also been working on some new most awesome DAMN DIRTY APES songs. Tunes with suck mond blowing names as "life sucks" "take it off" and my favorite "clean underpants". Intrigued? ... thats right, and you should be too!

umm errrr ahhhhh. thats quite enough for today me thinks... i may post again in a couple months

Perks of the trade.

Aug 24th/05

I get to look down on the rest of you fools! MWAHAHAH

PICPIC

A post

Aug 14th/05

My applologies for the "blaaaa"ness of my last post. how... unreadable. Not terrinly much excitement here. we has a good pool party last weekend. the pool was fun but i am afraid its use for this summer has already come to an end. perhaps not we shall see.

2 Weeks ago Crystal and I got profesional pictures taken, cause were awesome, and because someone else happened to be paying for it. they turned out really well this is one of the ones we will be getting.
Crystal is HOT!Crystal is HOT!

I re-created the BFP headquarters on the sims, did a slightly better job on that than last time, i also recreated the 4 of us residents, (i think i did a poorer job of that this time) so we have all been playing around with that. the sims 2 is pretty fun, as long as you can stay away long enough to avoid some sort of sims addiction, i have managed to do so.

I bidded on a couple things on ebay. so i decided to stop throwing my money to the canadian postal service with damn money orders, i am trying to get a pay pal account setup. i may go visit the bank this friday to make sure everything is going to work awesomely with them and i. i am currently bidding on a new Kick for my bass drum.
KickKick
as well as an AWESOME Klein (as in the boys who make electrical tools) Bottle Opener.
Bottle OpenerBottle Opener

If i get these i will hopefully use paypal to pay for them (yay technology)

excitement! ebay is fun.. Ohhh here's a cool thing, go to e-bay and search for NTSA. they get all the confiscations from airports and sell them online.. you can buy 20 jackknives for 10 bucks and crap its crazy cheep.
Thats NTSA
toe-nail clippers buy the pound and stuff, its neat. not that anyone would want to buy this crap, but its still ammusing.

Yar, life is good right now, i think it will be a lot better.. IE less stressfull about this time next month.. WOOHOOOOO, can't wate.

i'll post more crap again soon.

Full Cerebral Scan!

Jul 10th/05

So, i am an electrician now. Well, an electrician of sorts, more like an electrician bitch. It may sound like shit, but sometimes its fun. They go and tell me to do stuff, and i do it. Really though, i like the work, its lighter work than i have ever done, and i actually get to use the old noggin to figure some shit out. The Journeyman i am working under, Dave, is a cool guy since most the time its just him and i working there he lets me in on lots of shit, we discuss electical stuff, problems and solutions, and he lets me trouble shoot stuff thats fucked up. "Derek, this plug is out, sometime we killed the feed, find out what did it, fix it, and tell me what was wrong" i find it and fix it. Trouble shooting is fun stuff, and i definately enjoy it. it is kind of a rarity, but when it shows up i jump at the chance to be challenged, plus its a good way to show that i am no dumby... since i have gone to work i have touched nothing but Three Phase systems. which is slighlt more complex then your household wiring, instead of 1 hot 120v wire and 1 neutral wire we have 3 hot 120v witht he potential for 208v between any two of those hots (red, black, blue) and for each of those 3 hots you have one neutral carying the unballanced load. so basically you have a lot more votlage to play with. Also with 3 Phase power instead of killing everything with one switch like in your breaker pannel in the house. shutting one breaker of only kills the hot wire leaving the neutral energised from the other 2 phases. so basically the neutral is always on. unless you kill all three phases at the breaker. with makes for some work that must be done on live circuits.. which is totally fucking cool! EXCEPT when doing lighting... because in the buildings i am working in, in the core of downtown winnipeg. (the area right around portage and main mostly) we have a lot of lighting loadt opperating on a 3 phase system, at...DUN DUNNNN DUNNNNNNNN 347/600v 3phase.. the first (between a hot and groung or neutral) being able to make you puke your guts out for a couple hours) the second 600v. being lethal. i have only had to work on these a couple times. and always with much... carefulness.

Basically i like my new job, i think i have found a career where i have the potential to be great! i understand what is going on, and i am learning more every day. All in all work ain't so bad, and sometimes i even enjoy it. Its not that i havn't enjoyed work before, cause i have had fun jobs before, but this is someting i can actually see myself doing for a long time.. a career, not a job. And something i can see becoming VERY good at eventually.

Say What

Jun 19th/05

Well after nearly 10 months of school i am now an electrician, not a real electrician of course but one of those aprentice ones you hear so much about. As school ended lots of interesting stuff went down. First, i had an end of school bash in my back yard, about half the class attended which was weak, because everyone said they were coming, I am sure the ones that didn't show up will be electricuted in the comming months, either that or i will. so we had this big party everyone drank WAY to much, but it was way awesome and way fun.

2 days later i started my new job, at Static Electric, there offices are based on Logan, but i am working downtown mostly in the commodeties exchange building, neat stuff, lots of cool views, (up to 30 stories above our fair city)making for some cool pictures, i have managed to get up to the 22nd floor so far, the view is awesome. I can't wait to get my camera up there to snap some shots of the city, its just neat as shit.

So i started my new job, in my first week i worked 6 days and had just under 56 hours. The second week i worked 5 days and had 59.5 hours. thats right fuckers, you do the math. thats a lot of hours, especially for a guy who hadn't worked an 8 hour day in almost a year. the work is pretty fun, all the hours don't bug me much, the fact that i am working a half graveyard shift (starting work at 12:30 ending between 10 and 1) doesn't bother me either, but its hard work and i am getting wrecked tired, i basically come home from work and sleep. Luckily, only one week to go and we are supposed to be done this job and i can get on a regular hours work day. hopefully we will be by friday and i can actually attend BFP day. if not, i guess them's the breaks.

So thats whats new for now. more later!

The Internet

Jun 01st/05

Crystal and i were thinking about going on the internet, so we did some research first. We watched this video to learn about how the internet works. Those of you who are thinking about getting on the "Internet" should definately check this video out. it is very informative on how to handle yourself on the "internet" judging by what i saw i think i should definatly try and get going whith this internet thing, it seems to simplify everything.
so here is this video.

On Karma

Apr 14th/05

I have a very simple deffinition of karma. Do good unto the universe and the universe shall do good unto you. Much simpler than the thought of your karma affecting your destiny as a whole, or even the life which will follow this one (re-incarnation). I simply belive that good acts will be rewarded by good acts towards you and bad acts will be punished with bad acts towards you. Similar to the Buddhist definition of karma, but much simpler i belive.

I myself don't believe that there is a being or entity that keeps track of karma, no universal karma log book, no real track keeping at all. No punishment or reward for individual actions. Rather that karma is a function of time.

Over the period of your life you will make millions of decisions. From whether or not to step first with your right or left foot, to Whether that jump out of an airplane is a good idea. Each of those decisions could result in a good outcome or a poor one. Good or bad for yourself or for someone else. As you increase the time you spend making thses decision (living) they will ballance out, good and bad outcomes. As well, the decisions made which effect you will also ballance out. Simply, as the number of decisions increase the difference between them shrinks.

Seemingly one good thing can be written of as reward for another thing. One bad thing can be written off as punnishment for a bad action. Most excessively good people will in all likely-hood have less bad things happen to them, due to the fact people just feel bad about screwing over good people. And most bad people (those who screw over good people are the worst people) will have bad things happen to them becasue they are bad to good people and other people see this.

So, Karma is not something which follows you to your grave, rather something that the structure of society today unknowingly perpetuates. Karma, as i choose to put it, is the subconscious of society.

-Derek

In The Begining

Apr 11th/05

There was a big bang, and the universe was. Not as we know it, but it had begun its tenure of existance.

Today no big bang, no immesurable amounts of power forging all that is from the nothing that was.
Just me, Derek, with some thoughts. Thoughts for the ages of course, to be pondered time and time again by thousands of people to come, not because of me, but just because there thought's that are worth thinking, just as i do.

I am pretty sure this is what my "Blog" is going to be, a collection of thoughts, or philosophy's if you like, to be read by the willing, and moderately interested. Who knows what topics will come up in the days, months and years to come. I shall attempt to make them as comprehensive as possible. This may be diffiucult as sometimes my mind works in such mysterious ways that it is difficult for even me to understand. But i'll try and perhaps someone sometime will take somthing away from what i have to say, perhaps that someone will take enough away to spark up a converssation with some of there peer's and from there a thought of mine will spread like wildfire.... not likely, but perhaps.

So enjoy what i have to say. As senceless as my opinions may be, i have my reasoning for thinking them. Remember, they are just thoughts, opinions, and i am sure any facts which i care to include will be clearly labled as so, i imagine those will be few and far between.

Yours Respectfully,

Derek
